Five Questions for Michael Reiter-Coban

What should people know about you and your background?

From carpenter to sustainability. Early on, it was clear to me that the renewable raw material wood has an important place for me. After jobs as a furniture restorer and in planning, my path led to studying "Design and Product Management". There, already in the early 2000s, sustainability and Cradle to Cradle were built into lectures and projects and considered important. All of this then led to the social business "Die Fairmittlerei" and is passed on in my lectures and consulting.

Which aspect of sustainable business is underestimated in your opinion?

The possibilities and opportunities are still far too little considered, as the old prejudice that sustainability is costly and expensive still prevails. Yes, leaving the "comfort zone" is demanding, but in the end not expensive.

What drives you in your work for sustainable transformation?

Doing the right thing.

How does peer consulting work for you and what does it bring to clients?

Each of us has their expertise. But this is naturally limited to certain areas. But through our colleagues, we have quick and easy "access" to an enormous amount of expertise in many and very different areas. This allows us to advise and support our clients at very short notice in the most diverse areas.

Where do you see the biggest levers for systemic change?

I don't see "the one big lever". Because for each area there are different levers. That's exactly what makes our network so strong. We can operate many different levers in parallel and thus achieve a great overall impact.
