Five Questions for Michaela Stephan
What combination of your expertise makes you special?
With business administration, holistic orientation, and a focus on health, I combine a business-oriented, effective, and profit-focused perspective with healthy and sustainable strategies and measures in my CSR management consulting. I have known the event industry in the EU and USA and global medtech manufacturers for decades and from various perspectives.
Which aspect of sustainable business is underestimated in your opinion?
The global healthcare industry is one of the largest emitters - this is widely known. But the health impact of climate change on people and thus employees in the company is greatly underestimated. Sustainable business is not only important for global climate protection and its effects on the health of the world's population, but also for the health of the organization and its employees.
What drives you in your work for sustainable transformation?
There are three essential aspects that drive me. First, nature has always been close to my heart. As a teenager, I wanted to save the whales. I focused my diploma thesis on environmental management as quality assurance for a trade fair company. I see particularly great potential to make a difference in my focus industries of event marketing and in the global healthcare sector, and I increasingly encounter people in my daily practice who suffer health effects from climate change.
What do you value about working in an interdisciplinary team?
Interdisciplinary work brings together the best solutions for complex topics through different perspectives, experiences, and competencies. Especially in CSR management, this creates solutions that are holistic and sustainable. With many experts, a complete picture emerges that is greater than the sum of its parts.
What sustainability topic would you like to work on more intensively?
I would like to strengthen sustainable corporate management more intensively, not only but especially in medical technology companies and the event industry, while also contributing to workplace health promotion - that is, how companies can link ecological responsibility/the health of their environment with the health of their employees.
