Five Questions for Andreas Peham

What combination of your expertise makes you special?

My education in natural sciences and sustainability management, combined with over 25 years of experience in project management and consulting – from agricultural value chains to microfinance to climate protection and sustainable corporate management – enables me to take a holistic view of economic relationships. I use this foresight to work with my clients in small and medium-sized enterprises to develop practical strategies that combine ecological responsibility with economic success.

What does "systemic thinking" mean to you in sustainability transformation?

No company, no country, and no person operates in a vacuum. We are all part of an economic, social, and natural system. Systemic thinking makes these interactions visible. It helps to identify risks early, avoid misdevelopments, and – above all – leverage synergies and open up new opportunities.

What drives you in your work for sustainable transformation?

Today is the result of our decisions and actions of the past. Our actions today lay the foundation for the world of tomorrow. I want to be part of a design process that enables a liveable future for future generations – and I am confident that we can achieve this together.

What do you value about working in an interdisciplinary team?

Solutions for complex challenges and the development of future-proof business models require a systemic approach. Exchange and collaboration with colleagues from different disciplines and with diverse experiences create the space to develop innovative approaches and specifically address the needs of our clients.

How do you envision sustainable business in 10 years?

In ten years, companies will see themselves as part of society and part of nature. They will make their decisions with a view to the well-being of people and our planet. Sustainable business will then mean not only avoiding harm, but actively making a positive contribution – for society as well as for natural livelihoods.
